Mercury

The Messenger

Mercury governs thought, speech, writing, learning, short travel and technology. In a chart, it describes how you think and communicate.

It shows whether you process information quickly or slowly, verbally or visually, logically or intuitively.

It is one of the most practical placements to understand.

Always Near the Sun

Mercury never appears more than about 28 degrees from the Sun, so it is always in your Sun sign or one of the two neighbouring signs.

Around half of people have Mercury in a different sign from their Sun.

That difference often explains why a Sun-sign description feels slightly off.

Mercury Through the Elements

Fire Mercury thinks fast and speaks boldly. Earth Mercury thinks practically and methodically.

Air Mercury thinks in ideas and loves conversation. Water Mercury thinks through feeling and impression.

Knowing your Mercury style can improve communication at work and at home.

Mercury Retrograde

Mercury appears to move backward three or four times a year. Astrologers read these periods as times for review and reflection.

Being born with Mercury retrograde is common and is linked with a reflective, thorough mind.

The Natal Blueprint marks it if it applies to you.
