Exact Sun Sign

Born on the edge of two signs? This checks where the Sun really stood in your birth year instead of trusting a printed date chart.

Private by design: the maths runs on your device and nothing is sent to Zodiacs Fate.

Signs Are Positions, Not Calendar Dates

Your Sun sign is defined by where the Sun stood along the zodiac when you were born. The zodiac is a 360-degree circle divided into twelve signs of thirty degrees, beginning with Aries at the March equinox.

The dates printed in horoscope columns are averages of when the Sun crosses each boundary. They are close, but not exact.

The Exact Sun Sign instrument calculates the Sun's real position for your birth year, so it does not rely on those averages.

Why the Boundaries Shift

A calendar year of 365 days does not perfectly match the time the Sun takes to complete the zodiac, about 365.24 days. As a result, the moment of each sign change drifts by several hours from year to year and is pulled back by leap years.

That drift means a boundary can fall on different calendar dates in different years. Someone born on 20 March might be Aries in one year and Pisces in another.

The only reliable way to know is to calculate for the specific year.

Born Right on the Edge

If your birthday falls within about a day of a boundary, the instrument tells you. With your birth year, it gives a definite answer based on that year's actual position.

For people born on the exact day of the change, the birth time and place can also matter. The Natal Blueprint uses all three for complete precision.

Without a birth year, the tool calculates for a recent year and reminds you that the answer could differ.

Is There Such a Thing as a Cusp?

Popular astrology talks about cusp personalities that blend two signs. Technically, the Sun is always in one sign or the other at any moment.

Many people born near a boundary do recognise traits of both signs. Often the reason is that Mercury, Venus or another planet sits in the neighbouring sign.

If you feel like a blend, the Natal Blueprint can show you where that second influence comes from.

The Tropical Zodiac

This instrument uses the tropical zodiac, the system used in Western astrology, which ties the signs to the seasons. It is not based on the constellations, which have shifted relative to the seasons over centuries.

Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac and will usually give a different sign. Both systems are internally consistent; they simply start measuring from different points.

Stories about a "thirteenth sign" come from mixing up these two approaches.
