One of the eight lunar phases

Waning Crescent

A thin crescent rises before dawn. The final phase is a time to rest, reflect and recover energy before the next new moon begins the cycle again.

How to Use This Phase

Rest, reflection, slowing down on purpose

This is the phase the Moon is in right now.

The Final Sliver

In the last days of the cycle, only a thin crescent remains, visible low in the east before sunrise. This is the waning crescent.

It is sometimes called the balsamic moon, a name that evokes healing and soothing.

Soon the Moon will disappear entirely before the next new moon.

Rest and Recovery

Tradition treats this phase as a time for rest. Energy is low and little needs deciding.

Slowing down, sleeping well and spending quiet time alone can restore you for the next cycle.

Many people find it a natural time for meditation or gentle reflection.

Surrender

The waning crescent invites acceptance of what is. Not everything planned may have happened, and that is part of the rhythm.

Letting go of outcomes allows you to begin the next cycle with a fresh perspective.

This phase is less about doing and more about being.

Dreams and Intuition

Some traditions link the waning crescent with vivid dreams and heightened intuition.

Keeping a dream journal during this time can be interesting.

The Dream Lexicon offers ideas for interpreting common images.

Preparing for the New Moon

As the cycle ends, begin to sense what you might want next.

There is no need to decide yet; simply notice what calls to you.

The Moon Phase Calendar shows when the next new moon begins.
